University of Birmingham

The study is hosted by the Centre for Evidence and Implementation Science who are responsible for the study’s management and provide expertise in health policy, mixed methods and qualitative research. Dr Arabella Scantlebury is Co-Chief Investigator for the study and is responsible for oversight across all work packages. The University of Birmingham acts as the sponsor of the study.

University of York

York Trials Unit and York Centre for Health Economics are providing statistical analysis and working across all work packages on Elevate. Analysis of Hospital Episode Statistics (HES) and (Emergency Care Data Set) ECDS data will be performed by the University of York. Professor Joy Adamson from York Trials Unit is Joint project lead. The University of York is working across all work packages using mixed research methodologies.

York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

The Trust will be providing access to Scarborough’s UEC, as well as clinical expertise on  acute care in rural coastal areas. The Trust is the contracting site for the project and will be providing Public Patient Involvement leadership and project management to meet NIHR policies.

University of the West of England, Bristol

The University of the West of England, Bristol, will be providing input across work packages 1 and 3 with a focus on workforce across UEC services. Bristol will be providing guidance on how to implement changes in emergency care settings and departments. UWE will be providing research advice on service delivery and emergency medicine.

University of Lancashire

The University of Lancashire will be providing clinical expertise on primary care in rural coastal areas of England. The National Centre of Remote and Rural Medicine within the university will provide additional advice on co-production of policy suggestions arising from this study.

Yorkshire Ambulance Service

Yorkshire Ambulance Service will be providing insight into emergency care provision within coastal and rural regions. The Trust covers a large geographic area which includes UECs and Emergency Departments across several rural and coastal regions in Yorkshire.
